In October we collaborated with the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and Virginia Tech’s Center for Enhancement of Engineering Diversity, with support from NSF, to host a two-day workshop to identify what technical, social, political, and/or economic impediments have hindered the implementation of prior recommendations to enhance racial and ethnic diversity in engineering. The workshop, “Surmounting the Barriers: Ethnic Diversity in Engineering Education," brought together educators in engineering from two- and four-year colleges, plus staff from the three sponsoring organizations, to take a fresh look at the impediments to greater diversification in engineering education and how these impediments can be overcome. Videos forthcoming.
