1. The 2003 meeting of the ASEE Academy of Fellows was held in the Davidson A Room of the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Following the continental breakfast (more generous than the one last year) Chairman Lyle Feisel, formerly known as Your Humble Servant, but now no longer required to be humble, called the meeting to order and intro-duced Vice Chairman and Secretary John Prados, who, following the tradition of his il-lustrious predecessor, becomes Your Humble Servant The Second (YHS – II).
2. Chairman Feisel encouraged the Fellows to update their contact information on the ASEE web site. To accomplish this, go to http://www.asee.org/; click on the “Member Services” link; then under “Individual Membership” click on the “Update Membership Data On-Line” link; log in with your Member ID and Last Name, and follow the instruc-tions on the form. If you don’t know your Member ID, you can sometimes find it on the mailing label of your copy of ASEE Prism. (YHS-II has a Member ID with four digits, but expects that younger Fellows may have more).
3. Minutes of the 2002 meeting of the Academy of Fellows in Montreal were approved by a very loud “Aye.”
4. Chairman Feisel commended Bill LeBold in absentia for his excellent past work on the Fellows’ Newsletter. He expressed warm thanks to Ed Jones for agreeing to serve as the new Newsletter Editor.
5. Chairman Feisel read greetings from absent Fellows: Cary Fisher in Kosovo; Gordon Flammer, recently serving as a missionary in Egypt; Skip Fletcher; Lee Carlson; Frank Burris; Carl Zorowski; Bill LeBold (retired after 48 consecutive ASEE Conferences!); Karl Smith; Lillian Gottesman, caregiver for Fred Berger; Charlie Haines; and David Reyes-Guerra, now Vice Chairman of the Commission on Accreditation and Academic Quality of Higher Education in El Salvador.
6. Frank Croft reported that Bob LaRue from The Ohio State University had passed away. The Fellows present observed a moment of silence in remembrance of Bob and other departed Fellows.
7. New Fellows were introduced: Frank Gourley, West Virginia Institute of Technology; Ray Jacquot, University of Wyoming; Sherra Kerns, F. W. Olin College of Engineering and incoming ASEE President-Elect; Barbara Olds, National Science Foundation and Colorado School of Mines; Jerry Paskusz, University of Houston; Paul Rainey, California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo; Bob English, New Jersey Institute of Technology (whose greatest challenge was working for Angie Perna); Bill Sayle, Georgia Tech and moving to Georgia Tech – Lorraine; and Mario Gonzalez, The University of Texas at Austin.
8. Frank Huband gave a brief report on the State of ASEE. The Society is in good health financially. Total membership is approximately 12,500, with more than 400 Global On-Line Members, who pay dues at a reduced rate and receive only on-line access to publica-tions. Attendance at the 2003 Annual Conference is about 3200, which is very close to the all-time high at the Montreal Conference last year. The average age of members is getting slightly lower, as younger individuals join the Society. Frank expects a big in-crease in engineering faculty employment when current state financial crises become less severe. The Fellows gave Frank a round of applause for his work in maintaining ASEE’s strong financial position in difficult economic times, when many professional societies are experiencing serious financial stress.
9. The Fellows present introduced themselves and gave brief statements about their cur-rent situations. Bob Page brought greetings from John Calhoun, who was unable to at-tend.
10. Chairman Feisel observed that a number of the Fellows may qualify for Life Mem-bership in ASEE. In response to a question by Jim Stice as to how one becomes a Life Member, YHS-II has copied the relevant information from the ASEE web site below:
“ASEE has established the membership category of Life Member to recognize those individuals who have been active ASEE members for many years. To qualify for Life Membership, a person's age in years plus continuous years of paid membership must total 100 or more (for example, at age 65 with 35 continuous years of paid membership). Life Members pay no national membership dues, receive ASEE Prism at no charge, have full access to members-only areas of the web site, and enjoy a greatly reduced, nominal registration rate for the Annual conference. Life Members may elect to receive print versions of either/both the Journal of Engineering Education or/and Pro-files of Engineering & Engineering Technology Colleges for $10/year each, and do pay for mem-bership in any dues-assessing Professional Interest Divisions to which they belong.

11. Chairman Feisel reported that he has appointed a Nominating Committee consisting of Lyle Feisel and Angie Perna to submit a slate of officers (Chairman and Vice Chair-man/Secretary) to the Fellows in 2004.
12. Various Fellows took the opportunity to heckle Angie Perna until the Chairman brought the group back to order.
13. Angie Perna emphasized the responsibility of Fellows to nominate other worthy ASEE members as Fellows and to obtain the necessary supporting letters. Election as an ASEE Fellow is a highly selective process; about 10 out of 35 nominees are accepted each year. Chairman Feisel endorsed these comments and urged the Fellows to nominate suitable individuals for other ASEE awards as well. Nomination forms and instructions for these awards are posted on the ASEE web site http://www.asee.org/awards/.
14. The issue of reduced fees for retired members was raised. Frank Huband stated that this matter will be discussed by the Board of Directors.
15. Lyle Feisel adjourned the meeting, thanking the Fellows for the opportunity to serve the group as Chairman and looking forward to seeing all of them again next year.
