New Mexico State University-Associate Professor/Professor

Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure-Track, 9-month position
(REQ 502377)

The Department of Civil Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU) is searching for outstanding applicants to fill up to one tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank by Spring 2026.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in one or multiple of the following research focus areas:

• Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability
o System monitoring, sensing, and automation
o Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and digital twins
o Robotic-enabled remote inspection and maintenance
o Sensing integration and autonomous, adaptive data sampling
• System Integration and Optimization of Infrastructure Information
o Infrastructure informatics
o Spatial data analytics
o Data visualization for decision-making
o Asset Management
• Material Systems
o AI-assisted material discovery and design
o Interdisciplinary application development (civil, aerospace, medical, etc.)
o Innovative materials and manufacturing processes
o Self-healing materials for civil infrastructure
• Clean Energy, Water, and Environmental Systems
o Clean energy production such as hydrogen, geothermal, and carbon sequestration
o Energy harvesting from human activities and civil infrastructure
o System modeling and optimization of energy-water-environment sustainability
o AI-enabled energy, water, environmental systems including sensors and digital twins.

Responsibilities Include:
• Developing an internationally-renowned, externally and competitively-funded, independent research program
• Teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate level courses
• Advising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Participating in CE shared governance processes and service activities

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering or closely related fields are required.
• Professional licensure, or the ability to become licensed within five years is preferred.
