Marymount University (MU) invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering. The successful candidate should have the qualifications to be hired at the rank of Full Professor with tenure. Marymount is an innovative and vibrant Catholic institution, serving nearly 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Located in Arlington, VA, just minutes from Washington DC, MU is Virginia’s only Hispanic-Serving Institution, ranked 23rd nationally in campus ethnic diversity by U.S. News & World Report.
The School of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering offers undergraduate degrees in Biology (BS & BA), Biochemistry (BS), Neuroscience (BS), Biomedical Engineering (BS), and Mechanical Engineering (BS). In addition to these majors, the school offers career-preparation minors for a wide range of health/medical disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physical Science, and a master’s degree (M.S.) in Medical Sciences. The recently introduced engineering programs are in their second year and in the process of seeking ABET accreditation. The new director is expected to grow engineering programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
The ideal candidate for this position is an individual who possesses leadership skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. We are looking for a leader who can help grow innovative programs, impactful research, external funding, and student enrollment. The School Director is the chief administrator for the school. The Director leads activities in developing, implementing, and managing the school’s academic programs; promotes, supports, and facilitates faculty research activities; leads efforts for faculty hiring, supervision, evaluation, and mentorship; and is accessible to students and comfortable resolving complex student issues. The Director participates in fundraising, alumni relations, public relation activities, and continuous improvement of student success metrics. The Director will possess a terminal degree (earned doctorate) in a relevant STEM field from an accredited college or university. Candidates with the professional engineering credential and experience with ABET accreditation are particularly encouraged to apply.
The position will begin in summer 2024. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The search committee will begin reviewing candidates immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
