Benjamin Caldwell is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at LeTourneau University. He earned his B.S. (2007), M.S. (2009), and Ph.D. (2011) degrees from Clemson University, each in Mechanical Engineering, where his experiences were in the broad area of engineering design. Dr. Caldwell’s research interests include validation of design methods, design creativity, design for maintenance, and teaching effectiveness. Prior to working at LeTourneau University, Dr. Caldwell’s primary research experiences included the development of design methods for lightweight systems (BMW Manufacturing Co.) and modeling the functionality and interactions of mechanical systems to support conceptual design (National Science Foundation). Prior to his graduate work, Dr. Caldwell gained design experience working at Electrolux Major Appliances on a team designing and developing consumer bottom-mount refrigerators. Among other awards, Dr. Caldwell received the Graduate Teaching Fellowship from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Departmental Doctoral and Masters Awards in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University, and the R.C. Edwards Graduate Recruiting Fellowship from Clemson University. Dr. Caldwell is a member of ASME and Pi Tau Sigma.
Dr. Colleen Halupa is currently the Director of Curriculum Design and Technology at LeTourneau University. She has an A.S. in medical laboratory technology, a B.S. in healthcare management, an M.S. in health administration, and an Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in educational leadership, and management. Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Halupa was a biomedical sciences officer in the United States Air Force. Prior to her retirement from the military, she held varying positions in health administration and education and served as the program director for all of the Air Force clinical laboratory science programs. She has taught in a doctoral program in health for over seven years and has chaired over 80 doctoral dissertations. Dr. Halupa is an active contributor to education and health professional journals and has spoken at several state, national, and international health and education conferences. Her research interests are in online and hybrid learning, particularly in health science and STEM fields, online graduate education, student satisfaction, doctoral student/chair relationships and academic integrity.
